A Chilean man accused of sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl online was arrested upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, August 20, by Glendora police and Homeland Security Investigations.

Police say they believe the 21-year-old, who booked an Airbnb near Glendora, intended to attack the girl. Police declined to say where the victim lives, citing privacy concerns.

He was arrested on suspicion of soliciting a minor for a sexual offense, committing indecent acts with a minor, sending harmful materials to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and production of child pornography, said Glendora Police Lt. Matt Fenner.

The man and the victim, who was 13 at the time, met on Roblox this year, Fenner said, adding that the suspect was either playing or looking for a victim on the online gaming platform.

In the months that followed, he allegedly manipulated and manipulated the girl through several online apps, including Zoom, police said. Representatives from all of the online apps cooperated with investigators, Fenner said.

The relationship was discovered early and ended, Fenner said. The victim’s parents blocked the suspect.

Police received an anonymous tip in April about the online relationship, which could be traced back to Chile via an IP address.

Police contacted Homeland Security.

“Homeland Security Investigations has informed us that he has purchased a ticket to the United States,” Fenner said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection apprehended the suspect as he arrived at the airport. Police and Homeland Security Investigations took him into custody without incident.

The suspect was being held in the Glendora police cell on Wednesday.
