Tim Walz delivers speech as Hollywood’s Oprah Winfrey, John Legend join top Democrats at DNC

Kamala Harris’s running mate Tim Walz was praised by top Democrats and celebrities after his DNC meeting last night.

The party leadership, including former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, came to Chicago to formally nominate Harris and Walz. Walz was praised by the left in the US for his speech attacking Donald Trump’s stance on abortion and gay marriage.

Bill Clinton, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined the Minnesota governor onstage Wednesday night. The former president also took a swipe at Trump, saying, “Next time you hear him, don’t count the lies…count the i’s!”

The trio’s endorsement followed that of Barack and Michelle Obama, who on Tuesday praised Walz’s apparent authenticity.

“I love this man,” Barack Obama said of Walz, adding, “You can tell the flannel shirts he wears don’t come from some consultant. They come from his closet, and they’ve been through some stuff.”

The next day, Walz, a former high school football coach, said he had never spoken in front of such a large audience before, but joked that as a teacher he had given “a lot of pep talks.”

Delegates in the audience were seen holding up placards reading “Coach Walz” and cards with the vice presidential nominee’s face on them and chanting “Coach, Coach, Coach!” as he took the stage.

But in addition to the big names among the Democrats, there was also a surprise guest among the speakers on Wednesday: Oprah Winfrey.

The crowd jumped to their feet and cheered as the veteran TV presenter entered the arena.

Oprah, who describes herself as an independent voter, joined the Democratic support for the Harris-Walz ticket, claiming that “decency and respect will be on the ballot in 2024.”

Although the host had written to Donald Trump during his first presidential campaign in 2000, telling him, “Too bad we’re not running. What a team!”

She wasn’t the only celebrity on stage: singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder performed, as did John Legend, who paid tribute to Walz’s state by singing “Let’s Go Crazy” by the Minnesota-born artist formerly known as Prince.

But it was Nancy Pelosi’s anti-Trump comments that drew the most Republican ire of the night. She told delegates: “Let’s not forget who attacked democracy on January 6th: He did it. But let’s not forget who saved democracy that day: We did it.”

In response to the evening’s speeches, Trump’s campaign called Tim Walz a “weird” and “communist sloppy guy.” JD Vance accused the Democratic Party in an interview with Fox News of having too much “rhetoric and blanket promises” and not enough concrete results.

The campaign also accused “border czar Kamala” of handing “control of our border” to transnational criminal gangs.

The sequel: “Walz is actually the perfect choice for Kamala’s number two… he’s also a radical leftist lunatic whose dangerous ideology has destroyed everything it ever touched.”
