Mafia: The Old Country developer promises Sicilian voice acting and Italian subtitles

Mafia: The Old Country – the next game in Hangar 13’s Mafia series – was revealed earlier this week during Gamescom Opening Night Live. While the developer has kept many details about the upcoming title under wraps, it has since confirmed that the game will feature Sicilian voice acting and Italian subtitles upon release.

“Authenticity is at the heart of the Mafia franchise,” the team shared on social media platform X. “Mafia: The Old Country will feature Sicilian voice acting, in keeping with the game’s setting in 1900s Sicily. Additionally, Italian language localization will be available for both in-game UI and via subtitles.”

The news was met with much praise from other X users, as it was previously unclear whether these options would be implemented at release.

As you might have guessed given the game’s name and Mafia’s post mentioning its 1900s setting, The Old Country will take players further back in time than previous Mafia releases. It will feature a “gritty mafia story set in the brutal underworld of… Sicily” that will see players “fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era.”

Mafia: The Old Country will debut sometime next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Hangar 13 has promised to share more details in December, so stay tuned.
