AG: Midlands man charged with possessing and distributing child abuse material

Suspect faces up to 30 years in prison

Columbia, SC (WOLO) – A spokesperson for the SC Attorney General’s Office reports that Matthew Vereen of Columbia is charged with three counts related to the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Officials say members of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force say Vereen was arrested on August 21 in conjunction with the Columbia Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Matthew Turner Vereen, 28, of Columbia, SC, on three charges related to sexual exploitation of a minor. Investigators with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force made the arrest. Investigators with the Columbia Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, both also members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.

If found guilty, Vereen faces up to 30 years in prison, authorities say.
