Former Fulton coach sentenced to 12 years in prison for child pornography

A former Fulton High School coach and teaching assistant was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Joshua Demars, 38, of Fulton was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of receiving, transporting and possessing child pornography.

On March 19, 2023, Demars was arrested by New York State Police and taken into custody at his Fulton residence after investigators found images and videos on his cell phone and computer that indicated child sexual exploitation.

Police found evidence that Demars had indeed sent a video to his Dropbox account that showed a girl between the ages of 5 and 7 being sexually abused by an adult male. There were also dozens of recordings that showed Demars receiving live videos of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

He was charged with three counts of procuring a sexual act by a child, two counts of promoting a sexual act by a child and one count of tampering with evidence.

As part of his earlier guilty plea, Demars admitted to communicating with minors through the Snapchat application to receive images and videos of child pornography. Additionally, Demars acknowledged possessing hundreds of videos and images of child pornography on several of his personal devices.

Following his prison sentence, Demars will serve 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender. Demars was also ordered to pay restitution to victims he solicited on Snapchat.
