RG Kar students speak out against Dr Sandip Ghosh

Kolkata Rape and Murder Case: Former students have come forward against Dr Sandip Ghosh of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital alleging corruption and malpractice, including paying bribes to become in-house staff and cancellation of registration for declaring malpractice. Dr Ghosh was being investigated in connection with the rape-murder of a junior doctor on August 9.

As reported by News 18, former students said a gang was active in RG Kar, describing it as controlled by a “medical mafia.”

Former RG Kar students accuse Dr Ghosh of retaliation and corruption

Dr Chandramouli Jha, an ex-RG Kar student seeking a PG from Kolkata, protested against Dr Ghosh in 2021. “We protested against corruption and poor hostel facilities and even went on a hunger strike. But our protest was stopped soon. Dr Ghosh got my registration cancelled and I had to go to court to get it back. There is a threat syndicate in RG Kar. To become an in-house staff, you have to pay money to TMCP or the Trinamool Congress student wing. MLA Sudipto Roy is also involved,” Jha alleged.

Even Dr. Mainak from the same batch faced similar issues and indicated that his registration was cancelled after he raised his voice in protest.

Dr Ghosh accused of extortion and corruption

Hospital sources alleged that Dr Ghosh was running his own gang and that some students were working for him. “Even to speak to Dr Sandip Ghosh, we had to go through the TMC student wing,” some doctors complained. Dr Ghosh has been accused of several charges ranging from trading in bio-waste to selling dead bodies.

CBI to investigate hospital finances

The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to take over the financial irregularities at the hospital on Saturday morning, following an order from the Calcutta High Court. Doctors say these financial issues are crucial and that everyone involved should be investigated by the CBI.
