Subhadra Scheme for Odisha Women: Detailed Guide on Eligibility and Benefits

Bhubaneswar: In a major development, CM Mohan Majhi announced the implementation of Subhadra scheme in the state legislative assembly. Under the scheme, Rs. 50,000 will be provided in installments to one crore Subhadras of Odisha. One crore women between the age group of 21 and 60 years will benefit from this scheme.

During the elections, the BJP government had promised to implement this plan to empower women in Odisha. The Bharatiya Janata Party led by Mohan Majhi came to power in Odisha by defeating CM Naveen Patnaik and toppling the BJD government. Addressing the House on Friday, August 24, CM Majhi announced that the Subhadra Plan has been approved for implementation to empower women, starting from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. A press release issued by the Chief Minister of Odisha stated that a total amount of Rs 55,825 crore has been allocated for the plan.

Who is eligible?

CM Mohan Charan Majhi informed that the scheme would transform the livelihood of women in Odisha. About one crore women are eligible with an age group between 21 and 60 years. A total amount of Rs 10,000 will be paid in two installments annually on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day. In this way, the scheme would be beneficial for the eligible women.

He added that the payment will be made through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). The beneficiary would be paid directly into their Aadhaar-enabled single-holder (DBT) bank account. The beneficiaries will also be provided with a Subhadra Debit Card (SDC).

Under the scheme, the beneficiaries can also earn additional incentives of Rs 500 for themselves. The Majhi government has come up with a plan to boost digital transactions and support the Digital India initiative. He said that every gram panchayat and urban local body will identify 100 beneficiaries with maximum digital transactions, who will get a bonus of Rs 500.

Who is not eligible?

CM Majhi said that the state government is committed to ‘Antyodaya’. Women who are not eligible to benefit from the Subhadra scheme include:

  1. Economically prosperous families
  2. Government officials
  3. Income Tax Payers

In his address, the CM said, “Women receiving ₹1,500 or more monthly or ₹18,000 or more annually as assistance under any other government scheme will also not be eligible.”

How can you use this scheme?

Forms are available at Anganwadi centres, block offices, Mo Seva Kendras and Jan Seva Kendras (free of charge). Women can apply by filling up the form. In addition, a Subhadra society will be set up for the implementation and monitoring of the programme by the Women and Child Development Department.
