Q&A: Sara Desai, Author of ‘Til Heist Do Us Part’

We talk to author Sara Desai about Till the robbery do us partwhat a romantic comedy where dDiamond necklaces, billionaires, mafia bosses and student loans are all part of everyday life for Simi Chopra and her gang of robbers.

Hi Sara! Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself?

I’ve had many jobs before becoming a writer, including radio station DJ, bouncer, librarian, and finally lawyer. Now I get to live my dream on Vancouver Island with my three little monsters and one big one who writes romantic comedies and mysteries.

When did you first discover your love for writing and stories?

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love stories and spend hours in our public library. When I was six years old, our library had a story contest and I won first prize with a story about witches and haunted houses. I knew then that my future career was set!

Action, adventure, murder, mystery, chaos.

What can readers expect?

A heist with more twists than you can count, lots of laughs, juicy jokes, heartwarming moments, delicious villains, cringe, a bloodcurdling road trip and of course a happy ending.

Where did the inspiration come from? Till the robbery do us part Where does it come from?

I had been rewatching the Ocean’s films and decided I wanted to write a heist, but with a comedic element.

Were there any moments or characters that you really enjoyed writing or exploring?

I loved the character of Simone: the socialite who is far removed from the real world, but has a good heart and a big secret.

What do you love about the romance genre? What do you hope for the future?

I love the promise of a happy ending and the opportunity to see two people fall in love and discover that they are meant to be together (especially if they start out as enemies!). I also love the support and friendship I have found in the romance community and that I get to share my love of romance with so many wonderful people.

Finally, what books have you read so far this year and are there any more books you can read?Can’t wait to get your hands on it?

I’ve read a lot of novels this year and have loved Spark of the Everflame, Daughter of No Worlds and Quicksilver. I’m looking forward to Nisha Sharma’s Marriage and Masti and Nisha Tuli’s conclusion to the Artefacts of Ouranos series, Tale of the Heart Queen.
