A 16-year-old girl was held for five days on Saturday, accused of after robbing a 64-year-old man who had invited her into his hotel room.

Her pre-trial detention comes a day after a 15-year-old girl was sentenced to six days’ pre-trial detention on Friday in connection with the same case. Meanwhile, the police are still looking for three other people.

Saturday’s hearing was held behind closed doors, although police reportedly said both suspects deny all allegations.

The 64-year-old had reported that the 16-year-old girl he had “recently met” through the 15-year-old girl had visited him in his hotel room on Tuesday evening and asked him out for dinner.

Then they went to a fast food restaurant, before the 16-year-old girl asked him to go through the back of the building to meet the 15 year old girl.

Once the pair were at the back of the building, a vehicle arrived containing the 15-year-old girl, another girl and two boys.

One of the two boys then allegedly attacked the man with a spray and hit him in the face.

The man said he then fell to the ground and received “several blows” to different parts of his body, while his wallet, which contained €5,000 in cash and his identity card, was stolen.

The five youths then left the scene of the accident and the man was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was subsequently discharged.

Police have said that “there is no question of sexual exploitation by the complainant” and that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
