Car thefts on the rise in Islamabad – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Reports filed at various police stations in the capital over the past week indicate that car thefts are on the rise with many citizens losing their vehicles, including motorcycles and cars.

According to data from Business Recorder, 85 citizens lost their motorcycles and five people lost their cars.

During the same period, over 41 cases of robbery, 21 cases of street crime (theft of cash, mobile phones and other valuables) and several robberies, in which citizens were robbed of valuables worth millions of rupees, were reported at various police stations in the capital.

During the past week, criminal gangs were most active in the police stations of Khanna, Kohsar, Karachi Company, Aabpara, Sabzi Mandi, Margalla and the Industrial Area.

During the period under investigation, carjackers stole 14 motorcycles from Khanna police station limits, nine motorcycles were stolen from Margalla police station jurisdiction, six bikes and two cars from Aabpara police station limits, seven from Secretariat police station, seven from Kohsar police station, six from Ramna police station and another six bikes from Sabzi Mandi police station jurisdiction.

Further, five cases of robbery, seven cases of street crime and 14 cases of carjacking were reported at Khanna police station, seven cases of carjacking, four cases of robbery and two cases of street crime were registered at Kohsar police station and five cases of robbery, one case of robbery and street crime and five cases of carjacking were reported at Karachi Company police station.

Robbers also struck at four places and car thieves stole six bicycles from the Sabzi Mandi police station. Nine cases of car theft were also reported at the Margalla police station in the past week.

During the period under review, six incidents of mobile theft, nine cases of vehicle theft and one case of robbery took place within the limits of Karachi Company Police Station.

Lohi Bher police station also registered seven cases of mobile phone theft, five cases of carjacking and one case of robbery while Margalla police station reported another six cases of car theft, two cases of mobile phone theft and one case of robbery.

Furthermore, car thieves stole two motorcycles, armed persons struck at five locations, took their mobile phones and robbers looted two houses on the edge of the police station in the industrial area.

Last week, eight more cases of car theft and one case of robbery were reported at Lohi Bher police station.
