For those who thought my last post was full of conspiracy theories and strayed too far from the official story, I found a BBC documentary about Operation Gladio. It explores how the West collaborated with the Nazis and used terror tactics against the European population to maintain control and prevent leftist movements from spreading. The West also collaborated with organized crime and used the Mafia and the Nazis to exert control and spread fear in Europe.

A relevant source is this document from the Federation of American Scientists (FAS):

A Tangled Web: A History of the CIA’s Complicity in the International Drug Trade — Institute for Policy Studies — INTELLIGENCE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 1999 (House of Representatives – May 7, 1998)

INTELLIGENCE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 1999 (House of Representatives – May 7, 1998) Institute for Policy Studies The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), the CIA’s parent and sister agencies, maintain relationships with Italian Mafia leaders and recruit many of their personnel from the New York and Chicago underworld. Members of these organizations, including Charles `Lucky’ Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Joe Adonis, and Frank Costello, help the agencies maintain contact with Sicilian Mafia leaders exiled by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.

“The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), the CIA’s parent and sister agencies, maintained relationships with Italian Mafia leaders and recruited heavily from the New York and Chicago underworlds. Members such as Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Joe Adonis, and Frank Costello helped these agencies maintain contact with Sicilian Mafia leaders exiled by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Domestically, the goal was to prevent sabotage at East Coast ports, while in Italy the goal was to gather intelligence on Sicily ahead of the Allied invasions and to suppress the nascent Italian Communist Party. Captured in New York, Luciano was pardoned for his war service and deported to Italy, where he built his heroin empire. He began by diverting supplies from the legal market before developing connections in Lebanon and Turkey that supplied morphine base to laboratories in Sicily. The OSS and ONI also worked closely with Chinese gangsters who controlled vast quantities of opium, morphine and heroin, helping to establish the third pillar of the post-World War II heroin trade in the Golden Triangle – the border area of Thailand, Burma, Laos and China’s Yunnan province.”

Of course, these facts are not widely known and are often omitted from our official history. I appreciate that the BBC occasionally produces documentaries that reveal these truths, although such documentaries are often buried, forgotten and not shown to the public. Another example of such a forgotten documentary is one about Pearl Harbor, which claimed that the US knew about the attack in advance and allowed it to happen, sacrificing almost 3,000 of its own citizens to justify entering the war.

Of course, our textbooks leave out America’s collaboration with organized crime and the Nazis, just as they leave out the real facts about Pearl Harbor. That’s not surprising in what often feels like an Orwellian world.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every painting has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been changed. And the process continues day after day and minute after minute. History has stopped. There is nothing except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
― George Orwell, 1984

For anyone who wants to learn more about real history, I recommend “The Devil’s Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America’s Secret Government” by David Talbot. I’m currently listening to the audiobook:

Before we had Kissinger and Brzezinski’s The Grand Chessboard, there was Allen Dulles’s The Devil’s Chessboard.

I want to say in advance that I am looking forward to the reactions to The Devil’s Chessboard, especially as it raises the issue of the Final Solution in Germany, which I know will cause some concern among some people.
