Coldstreamweg closure continues, but beach car parks remain open

Husband Road remains closed as the district awaits a permit from the provincial archaeology department

The Husband Road renovation is still ongoing and could last into the school year.

Husband Road to Kalamalka Road remains closed, although access to the Kal Beach parking lot has been maintained. Drivers can use Middleton Way to Husband Road to reach the parking lot via Highway 6.

The normal access route has been closed since early July due to a stalled project. The project involves removing and replacing the road surface, but work has been halted because Husband Road is located within an identified archaeological zone, which requires a land change permit to continue work.

The Coldstream District reported Thursday evening that the county archaeology department has agreed to expedite the permitting process, but the district does not yet know when it can expect the permit.

The district indicated that the department gives permission to implement dust control, adding that dust conditions are being monitored and action taken as necessary.

The district is also working with the local school district to manage bus routes in the event that Husband Road remains closed through September. If a bus route is affected, families will be notified by the school district.
