Frontier Motel restaurant in Revelstoke goes up in flames

The restaurant was destroyed, but emergency services were able to save nearby motel rooms and the gas station

The historic Frontier Motel restaurant in Revelstoke was destroyed by fire last night.

According to Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services, the downtown restaurant building was fully involved when crews arrived. Multiple fire trucks responded to the scene and crews worked to contain the fire and evacuate all guests from the motel rooms.

Thanks to the work of the fire brigade, other nearby buildings were spared.

“Due to their hard work, firefighters were able to save the Fas Gas and Frontier hotel rooms. There was no damage to the Chevron or other nearby buildings,” Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services said in a Facebook post.

“Firefighters will remain on site for some time. No injuries have been reported to firefighters or residents.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but there is no suspicious situation.

City Councilman Tim Palmer said on Facebook that he heard sirens through the rain around midnight on August 24.

“This morning we learned that our firefighters and ESS (Emergency Support Services) were called to a fire that destroyed the historic Frontier Motel. Fortunately, no one was injured and ESS was able to find accommodations for guests staying at the motel,” Palmer wrote.

Palmer said the motel sustained damage, but that firefighters “did a great job containing the damage.”

“Thank you to our firefighters for their tremendous efforts and to BCAS, RCMP, Fortis, BC Hydro and ESS for all their assistance,” said Fire Chief Steven DeRousie.
