On Stage – Slighted Souls and Other Plays and Radio Dramas

About Onto the Stage – Slighted Souls and other plays and radio plays

This is a summary of the author’s Indian plays and radio plays:

“Slighted Souls” is a poignant love story set in rural Telangana, plagued by feudal exploitation of the oppressed dalits. Apart from forcing the dalits to work as serfs in the fields with impunity, the landowning doras had no qualms in reducing the women of this ilk to sex slaves in the gadis, leading to an armed resistance that engulfs a young couple.

“Men at Work on Women at Work” is a tragicomic episode that depicts the consequences of sexual harassment at the workplace in the Indian urban environment with its traditional cultural underpinnings.

Built on the slippery ground of the innate human urge to gain the upper hand, “Castle of Despair” portrays its facade of untruth on the grand stage of human tragedy.

The radio play, “A Love on Hold,” gives voice to the fears felt by a man and a woman as their old flame rekindles and to the dilemmas of possession the couple faces in a conservative cultural background.

Author’s Biography:
BS Murthy is an Indian novelist, playwright, short story, nonfiction and article writer, translator, a ‘small’ thinker and a budding philosopher in ‘Addendum to Evolution: Origins of the World by Eastern Speculative Philosophy’ originally published in The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal, Vol. 05 Number 18, Summer 2004.
He was born on August 27, 1948, and trained as a letter-writer. He expressed his management ideas in about thirty published articles. He later wrote Benign Flame: Saga of Love, Jewel-less Crown: Saga of Life, Crossing the Mirage: Passing through youth (plot- and character-driven novels), Glaring Shadow: A stream of consciousness novel, Prey on the Prowl: A Crime Novel, Of No Avail: Web of wedlock, a novella, Stories Varied: A Book of Short Stories, and Onto the Stage: Slighted Souls, as well as other plays and radio dramas.
He then entered the nonfiction realm with a ‘new’ story on Puppets of Faith: Theory of Communal Strife (a critical assessment of Islamic faith, Indian politics and more), possibly a new genre. He ventured into the field of translations to render the Sanskrit epics, Vyasa’s Bhagvad-Gita (Treatise on Self-Help), Valmiki’s Sundara Kãnda (Hanuman’s Odyssey) in contemporary English idiom, and a critique of Inane Interpolations in Bhagvad-Gita (an invocation for their revocation).
And finally, as a prodigal son, he returned to his mother tongue, Telugu, to write the short story తప్పటడుగులు (Missteps).
Although his fiction grew out of his belief that readers could only be moved if the stories were soulful portrayals of characters rooted in their native soil, rather than a mishmash of local and foreign caricatures on a hybrid canvas, his entire oeuvre was born of his passion for writing, matched only by his love of language.
His oeuvre described above is in the public domain as free e-books https://g.co/kgs/bGUEqt
Besides, some of his published articles on management issues, general insurance topics, literary matters and political matters in The Hindu, The Economic Times, The Financial Express.
