Floyd Mayweather vs John Gotti III Result, Highlight Video, Referee Fired

Former world champion Floyd Mayweather made easy work of John Gotti III after a bizarre decision midway through the fight led to a referee change.

The last time the two faced each other, in 2023, a commotion broke out when the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round. Gotti was eventually disqualified for his actions, leading to a rematch.

Two rounds into Sunday’s rematch, the fight appeared to be headed for a similar outcome until Mayweather called for a new referee after a bizarre decision.

With a minute left in the second round, Mayweather unleashed one of his signature punches, landing on the ear of the grandson of a former mob boss, but the referee intervened and ruled the punch illegal.

A dispute broke out in the ring, with the boxing icon appearing to fire the referee in order to continue the match.

“This is not a shot in the back of the head,” said a DAZN commentator.

“That’s a hook, it’s a long-range hook. How can that be a behind-the-head shot?”

The two corners appeared to be interfering from the sides when referee Hector Afu left the ring.

He was soon replaced by Mexican official Alfredo Uruzquieta.

Afu was reportedly angry over Mayweather’s protests after he ruled a left hook on Gotti illegal.

However, Mayweather, who retired from boxing in 2017 with an undefeated record, dominated the match in front of a crowd of 22,000.
