STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: Volunteers of Team Jammu, led by its chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, demanded death penalty for those found guilty of smuggling and selling narcotics among youths, thereby ruining the careers and lives of the younger generation. They today appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir government to fulfil its promise to deal with drug peddlers with an iron fist.
An initiative by Team Jammu in the form of a bike rally against drug abuse received overwhelming response from the people of Jammu. People from all party ideologies, castes, creeds, colours and religions came forward to show their support for a drug-free Jammu.
To wage a war against drug abuse, rightly called “Narco-Terrorism”, Team Jammu today organised an anti-drug bike rally, which in a sense became a historic one as members of civil society, social organisations and associations from all markets of Jammu city and its outskirts not only came forward to congratulate the organisers but also became a part of the rally themselves. In one of the historic anti-drug bike rallies in Jammu city, Team Jammu, a group of youth from different walks of life, today gave a strong message against the menace of drugs in the region.
Thousands of Team Jammu bike-riding volunteers, including members of Bull Riders Motorcycle, Survivor Hill Riders and Himalayan Bulls Adventure Clubs, gathered at Toph Sherkhania Bridge on Akhnoor Road today morning and raised slogans like “Nashe Ki, Khatam Karo Bimaari, Hamara Jammu, Hamaari Zimedaari.”, “Jammu Ko Bachaana Hai, Nashe Ko Bhagaana Hai” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” “Vande Mataram”, “Jai Jammu, Jio Jammu”. The bikers organised a mega bike rally led by Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal. The rally passed through AG office, Shakti Nagar, Rajpura Mangotrian, Rehari, Sarwal, Mian Deedo Chowk, Shakuntala Crossing, KC Crossing, Bus Stand, Jewel Chowk, GGM Science College and SPMR Commerce Road, Talab Tillo, Gole Pully, Gole Gujral Crossing, Patta Chungi, Akhnoor Road and finally ended near Toph Sherkhania Bridge.
At various places, Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal warned the people to unite and wage a war against the drug mafia that is robbing the youth of their precious lives. “It was a beginning and an eye-opener for the state administration and police that they need to take stricter action against the drug menace in Jammu region, otherwise the time has come when the people of Jammu who are voluntarily under the umbrella of Team Jammu will openly revolt against those who are selling the poisonous drugs,” Zorawar Singh Jamwal said.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal urged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and play an important role in the nation’s development. He further demanded that the JK UT administration should build more infrastructure like open-air and indoor stadiums and promote sports activities in every district of J&K so that the youth remain physically fit.
Moreover, the police must set an example by exposing the black sheep within their department who are involved with drug barons. They must also develop a mechanism to tackle all drug trafficking routes and thus thwart all attempts by the drug mafia who are out to ruin the lives of the younger generation.
