PR calls for modernization of telecommunications to combat organized crime • 360 Mozambique

The President of Mozambique (PR), Filipe Nyusi, highlighted this Friday (23) the modernization of telecommunications as a key factor in preventing and combating organized crime and terrorism, pointing out the importance of public security for the country’s economic and social development. Lusa reported.

“Mozambique faces major challenges in terms of internal security, which requires investment in preventing and combating organised and transnational crime, such as kidnapping, vehicle theft, drug trafficking and human trafficking, illegal immigration, smuggling of goods and terrorism,” Nyusi said.

The president’s remarks came during the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Integrated Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior, a project supported by South Korea.

“The centre will promote the modernisation of communications between the units of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the National Public Rescue Service (SENSAP),” said the Head of State, who explained that the initiative also includes the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies that will allow the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) to automatically check fingerprints.

“It is the beginning of a new era in information management and security emergencies in our country and it is a new phase in the relationship between Mozambique and Korea in the areas of security of people, goods and infrastructure,” he added.

According to the president, the project was conceived in 2015 and is the result of the government’s commitment to strengthening the guarantee of public order, safety and tranquility. “The new infrastructure will have its central base in the capital of the country and poles spread across the other provinces,” he concluded.

Authorities point to the biggest challenges in terms of crime: terrorism in Cabo Delgado and the kidnappings that have been recorded throughout the country.
