Five construction mafia suspects appear in court in KZN

The group of people, aged between 28 and 44, were arrested last weekend in Pietermaritzburg.

Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the provincial SAPS, says they stormed a site where a bridge is under construction, disrupting work in the uMsunduzi municipality.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police arrested the five suspects and charged them with intimidation and disrupting a construction site.”

“The five suspects, aged between 28 and 44, will appear before Camperdown District Court on Monday 26 August 2024.”

Last week, Martin Meyer, member of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, addressed locals who had peacefully protested at the Thembalethu Heritage Building, expressing his desire to be involved in the R100 million renovation project.
