Authorities in Sicily have called on airports to stop the sale of mafia-related souvenirs

Sicily’s regional government today asked the region’s airports to stop selling souvenirs with mafia images.

“Let the sale of mafia-related souvenirs and trinkets stop at Sicilian airports,” urged Alessandro Aricho, regional mobility advisor.

The official wrote to the managements of the operators of the airports of Palermo, Catania, Comiso, Trapani, Lampedusa and Pantelleria.

“Maintaining a dignified image, free from the usual negative stereotypes, is without a doubt a strong line to follow as a first destination for tourists and visitors to Sicily,” he added.
