Spain and Portugal dismantle drug smuggling operation

Drugs were smuggled in crates filled with pineapples

In a coordinated effort, Spanish and Portuguese authorities have successfully dismantled a criminal network involved in smuggling cocaine into Spain, hidden in crates of pineapples. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 211 kilograms of cocaine. The operation was highlighted in social media posts and official communications.

The cocaine was hidden in commercial shipments of pineapples from South America, which arrived at the port of Setubal in Portugal. The drugs were then intended to be transported by road to Spain. The operation was launched after suspicious activity was detected around a container in Setubal, which prompted a joint response from both Spanish and Portuguese police.

Upon arrival of the container in Spain, the police noted the presence of two individuals carrying out counter-surveillance activities during the unloading of the pineapples. Their surveillance led to the discovery of the cocaine, which was ingeniously packaged in rectangular packages placed in a false bottom of the pineapple boxes, distributed over several pallets. The complexity of the operation shows the level of organization behind the smuggling network.

The arrested individuals include those directly involved in the transportation of the narcotics, as well as the suspected recipient, indicating a comprehensive operation targeting the entire distribution network. This case sheds light on the elaborate strategies used by drug cartels to circumvent international security measures.
