The Indo Daily: Gangland Succession|1: ‘The Psycho’ PJ Judge and the first deadly betrayal??

“The Psycho” PJ Judge

Gangland, like business or politics, is often based on a succession of personnel; a series of good performances that eventually comes to an end, with the players involved either passing the reins to the next guard or being taken out by a ruthless competitor.

Between 1996 and 2010, Ireland saw several transitions of mafia-like figures who rose to the top of the drug trade, killing not only their opponents but also those who originally took them under their wing and gave them a start.

This miniseries spotlights three of the original founders of crime in Ireland and how their intertwined stories of money, drugs and murder influenced organised crime in the state for years.

In today’s The Indo Daily, in the first part of our gangland succession trilogy, Irish Independent Special Correspondent Paul Williams looks at the chequered and dangerous past of one of Ireland’s most violent career criminals. This is the story of “The Psycho” PJ Judge. This podcast was originally published in March 2024.
