Fox host arrested on child abuse charges

Matt Vereen, 28, a weekend anchor and sports reporter for WACH Fox 57 in South Carolina, has been arrested on suspicion of child pornography and child exploitation.

Vereen was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after police found a photo of a child in a “sexually explicit state of nudity” on his laptop, according to the arrest warrant.

The image allegedly showed a young girl with her “legs spread” while her genitals were visible. Her genitals were visible “through a sheer panty,” the warrant said. Her “right nipple is also visible through a white sheer top,” the warrant added.

Vereen was identified through Gmail data, Apple data, ISP data, and another data file that had been made unreadable.

Another search warrant alleges that Vereen solicited the purchase of a one-minute, 32-second video of an underage girl. A third warrant alleges that he solicited another video that was one minute, 26 seconds long.

According to Vereen’s LinkedIn page, he has worked for WACH FOX 57 for almost three years. Previously, he worked as a news anchor for KOLR, an outlet in Springfield, Missouri.

Alvin S. Glenn Bond Court told local outlet Wis10 that Vereen was given a $40,000 cash bond. The conditions of his bond include no personal internet access, no social media use outside of work and no contact with a minor without adult supervision.

Vereen faces up to 30 years in prison if found guilty.
