JD Vance’s Liberal Neighbors in Alexandria Angry Over Secret Service Closure of Local Park for Security Reasons

The Secret Service for Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) caused an uproar among neighbors near his Alexandria, Virginia, home when they recently temporarily closed a small park near the Ohio senator’s home as a security measure.

Security around Vance has been stepped up in recent weeks, particularly since the assassination attempt on his Republican running mate, former President Donald Trump. The city, in coordination with the Secret Service, has closed a small park near the Vance family home to protect them from potential threats.

Vance’s home is located in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, one of the most progressive neighborhoods in the Washington, D.C. suburbs.

The negative reactions to this security decision led to messages on social media and numerous messages from his left-wing neighbors.

Neighbors posted on the social media app Bluesky about their plans to gather at the park near Vance’s home before the park closed on Sunday.

“Partying like there’s no tomorrow at the park next to JV Dance’s house. Which there isn’t because it’s closed to the public starting tomorrow. I brought donuts,” one person wrote, sharing photos of food and a multi-colored friendship bracelet that read “Kamala (Harris) is Brat.”

The reference to donuts is related to social media posts about Vance’s visit to a donut shop during his campaign, which some progressives called “weird.”

Another neighbor said the gathering would feature cat lady costumes and anti-Trump karaoke music.

“ALX: We are meeting tomorrow at 5pm in the park next to JV Dance’s house to say goodbye before the Secret Service closes it on Sunday. There will be Kamala friendship bracelets, cat lady costumes, donuts (which makes sense) and ‘I’m a Never Trump Guy (Remix)’ karaoke,” she wrote.

The neighbors regularly made jokes about Vance and Banks, referring to a debunked X-rated hoax about a story that was never written in his memoir Elegy of the HillbillyIn one post, a neighbor asks if anyone has an “old children’s bench” that they can use for the park party.

A Del Ray resident pictured proudly wore a “Del Ray Mafia for Kamala” shirt at the farewell party in the park last weekend.

Other Del Ray neighbors have placed signs in their yards reading “Childless Cat Lady for Kamala” to protest Vance living in their neighborhood.

Neighbors have openly displayed rainbow stripes and pride flags since Vance moved into the neighborhood as a newly elected senator. Some local activists reportedly “yard bombed” his home by hanging transgender and pride flags and a “Respect Our Rights” sign around a utility tree outside his house.

“JD Vance neighbors are absolutely freaking out over postage stamp sized playground closing due to safety concerns, this is the highlight of Northern Virginia,” Alexandria resident Julie Gunlock wrote on X.

She added: “Reminder: This is the same neighborhood where Democrat James Hodgkinson tried to assassinate 24 Republican congressmen a few years ago, but these people are now complaining about a little security measure put in place for the guy who hangs out with Trump, who was almost assassinated a few weeks ago. These people are insane.”
