‘Went into the room and closed the door…’

Malayalam actor Baburaj has been accused of sexually abusing a young artiste. These allegations have surfaced

Amid Hema Commission report, junior artiste accuses Malayalam actor Baburaj of sexual abuse: 'He entered the room and closed the door...'

The recent Hema Committee Report has put the Malayalam Film Industry, Mollywood, under fire. Fresh allegations of sexual abuse have surfaced against the famous Malayalam actor and producer Baburaj. A junior artiste, who wished to remain anonymous, has alleged that the actor invited her to his home instead of offering her a role.

“When I reached his house, only Baburaj and his assistant were there. He gave me a room to rest, but after some time he knocked on the door. When I opened the door, he entered the room and closed the door, used some abusive words and attacked me and sexually abused me. I did not complain to anyone at that time because he is a famous actor and I did not get any support from anyone,” the woman told News18.

Hema Commission Report

The report by the Justice Hema Committee, set up by the Kerala government after the 2017 sexual assault case of an actress, has exposed cases of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, leading to calls for action against the culprits.

The Malayalam film industry has been shaken by the explosive findings of the Justice K Hema commission on harassment and abuse of women professionals. On Sunday, two high-profile resignations were announced in connection with these issues.

Director Ranjith stepped down as chairman of the state film academy Kerala Chalachitra Academy and actor Siddique stepped down as general secretary of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists).

As political pressure mounted against Ranjith, actor Siddique resigned from AMMA after voices from within his student union called for his dismissal.
