Actor Mohanlal resigns as president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists

He stated that a general meeting would be held in two months, where a new board would be elected.

“The existing management committee will in the meantime continue to ensure uninterrupted continuation of the allowance that AMMA provides to its members, to assist with the health insurance that is provided and to coordinate the office activities till the AGM,” Mohanlal continued in the letter. “We hope that AMMA will have a new leadership that is able to renew and strengthen AMMA. Thanks to all for criticizing and correcting.”

Earlier, Vice Chairman Jayan Cherthala had announced that the executive committee would meet on Tuesday. However, a senior official of the association later clarified that no such meeting was scheduled.

The resignation of Siddique, who had already stepped down amid allegations of sexual abuse, had intensified the search for a new secretary-general. Although actor Baburaj, the current joint secretary-general, was next in line for the post, there was mounting pressure for him to step aside amid similar allegations against him.

Reports suggested that Jagadish, the vice-chairman of AMMA, was a strong candidate for the role of deputy general secretary. His support for the Hema committee report had led to increased support for him in recent days.

However, Jagadish indicated that there are scheduling issues as he has multiple film commitments in the coming months and has to travel between Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi frequently for meetings.
