What’s the story?

Netflix has released the first trailer for the musical drama Emilia Perezstarring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez.

The film, directed by Jacques Audiard, has already garnered Oscar attention after winning the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Saldana, Gomez and their co-stars Karla Sofia Gascon and Adriana Paz also won the award for Best Actress.

‘Emilia Perez’ Gets 9-Minute Standing Ovation at Cannes

Emilia Perez tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader, played by Gascon, who wants to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Gomez plays the character’s wife in the film.

The film received a nine-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, the longest premiere of the year. Gomez was reportedly moved to tears by the overwhelming response.

‘Emilia Perez’ Coming to Netflix in November

Emilia Perez will be shown in select theaters from November 1st, after which the film will be available to stream on Netflix from November 13th. Edgar Ramirez also plays a major role in the film.

According to Netflix’s official description, the film is an “odyssey” that follows the journey of four extraordinary women in Mexico, all pursuing their own happiness.

Gomez shares her experience working on ‘Emilia Perez’

She talks about her experiences working on Emilia PerezGomez said Variety at the Cannes Film Festival: “It was compelling, heartbreaking, really moving.”

The Grammy-nominated artist also indicated in the film that she enjoyed singing.

“I had a great time and I love the songs. I think they’re really beautiful,” she said.

Gomez shifts focus from music to acting

In recent years, Gomez has shifted her focus from her music career to acting.

She currently stars in the Hulu comedy series Only murders in the building alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Gomez will also play a cameo role in the Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off series, titled Wizards Outside Waverly Placewhich she also produces.
