Violent Venezuelan gang seizes apartment buildings, terrorizes quiet US town and beyond: report

A violent Venezuelan prison gang even more entrenched than MS-13 has reportedly set up shop in Aurora, Colorado, thanks to local authorities’ decision to welcome criminal aliens with open arms.

“Aurora — a quiet bedroom community of 390,000 directly east of the Mile-High City — has become a base for the brutal Tren de Aragua gang, which has seized several apartment complexes and unleashed a wave of violent crime,” the New York Post reported.

The takeover was reportedly led by Jhonardy Jose Pacheco-Chirino, a gang leader known as “Galleta,” which is Spanish for “cookie.”

Within months of arriving in the country, he and his gang beat up a man in an apartment complex they had taken over in Aurora.

Pacheco-Chirino was arrested again in July for opening fire and wounding two men in the same apartment complex.

According to the Post, members of the Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang are accused of committing a number of violent crimes across the country, including the murder of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia.

Members of the Tren de Aragua gang were also responsible for shooting two New York Police Department officers during an arrest in June.

A local investor associated with a company that owns several apartment complexes in Aurora told the New York Post that there was a “massive shooting” at one of the properties some time ago.

“I’m afraid this could happen in America,” the investor said, adding that the company has lost “control” of several properties because of the gang.

“They were hanging around the property at first and creating a bad element that is there all the time. And then they started taking over, a few months ago, they started taking over vacant units,” they added.

Eventually, TDA gang members began renting units to criminal aliens, who they allegedly “threatened.” They also allegedly terrorized the apartment building staff, forcing them to flee.

Earlier this August, Aurora Police announced they had formed a task force with the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to address this growing threat.

“The APD does not tolerate violent crime in our communities,” police said in a statement.

John Fabbricatore, a former ICE official now running for Congress, complained to the Post that local officials have been slow to respond to the gang’s growing presence.

“It has become increasingly clear that certain city officials, including the Aurora Police Department, are downplaying or ignoring the criminal activity that is affecting many neighborhoods in North Aurora,” he said.

“It is notable that there are illegal immigrant gangs in specific apartment complexes in Aurora, but these problems are downplayed for what appear to be ideological reasons,” he added.

It appears he may be right, because when Denver police union boss Marc Sears was questioned by the Post, he claimed it is “absolutely false” to say the gang is taking over the city.

“They’re no different than any other documented gang that we have,” he claimed. “I can tell you that the officers, there is a concern about this so-called ‘green light’ that they have on officers. Certainly, there is a concern about it, but in my opinion, as the president of the union, I feel like we’ve had a green light since 2020.”

By the “green light” he meant reports that TDA members had been given the “green light” to open fire on police.
