CSPD Announces Change of Address for Sexually Violent Predator

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has sent out a notice that Shane Worth Poteet, a court-ordered sexually violent predator (SVP), has changed his address within the police department’s jurisdiction.

According to the CSPD, Poteet was convicted in Prowers County in 2016 of attempted sexual assault of a child, in 2015 of third-degree sexual assault, and in 2010 of attempted sexual exploitation of a child via the internet.

Poteet is now listed as living at 1612 Edith Lane and is described as a 35-year-old white male who is 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes.

As required by law, the CSPD has made a notification to the community and is carrying out the following tasks:

  • The Colorado Department of Public Safety’s Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) reporting team has been notified.
  • Poteet’s residence, employment, access to vehicles, legal status, and prior crimes have been verified and confirmed.
  • Reports have been made to residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity.
  • Patrol personnel briefed on Poteet’s status, history, appearance, location, employment and vehicles.
  • Notify surrounding law enforcement agencies.
  • An online video is available that describes the SVP community notification process, SVP information, and additional resources for the community. This video can be viewed here.

The CSPD will make every reasonable effort to ensure that Poteet registers as a sex offender and understands his rights and responsibilities.

Poteet is one of 20 sexually violent predators currently registered with CSPD and living in the community. The department said it takes his presence very seriously and will ensure he acts within the law and that citizens are safe.
