Gangs of Wasseypur

Anurag Kashyap has announced a special re-release of his iconic film Gangs of Wasseypur, which will hit theatres from August 30 to September 5. The re-release will revive the cinematic experience of the crime comedy that has become a cultural beacon in Indian cinema. Kashyap made the announcement on Instagram, sharing the news with fans and revealing that tickets will be priced at Rs 149.

Released in 2012, Gangs of Wasseypur is known for its raw and gritty portrayal of the coal mafia in Dhanbad. Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film has achieved cult status for its intense story, memorable dialogues and significant impact on pop culture. Lines like “Keh ke lenge uski” and “Beta… tumse na ho payega” have become part of the film’s legacy, inspiring memes and influencing both audiences and future filmmakers.

The film’s impact extends beyond its release as it served as a launchpad for actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pankaj Tripathi. In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Tripathi reflected on the unique atmosphere during the shoot of Gangs of Wasseypur. He fondly recalled the camaraderie among the cast, which he noted is rare in contemporary film sets where actors often remain isolated in their vans. Tripathi’s recollections highlight the collaborative and engaging environment of the shoot, which is in sharp contrast to the more segmented approach of the current film industry.

The re-release offers both new audiences and longtime fans the chance to experience the film once again on the big screen, celebrating its enduring influence and memorable cinematic achievements.
