Exiled Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan speaks out; reveals: ‘Only a few parts of the report were published and the government hid crucial findings’ : Bollywood News

Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who emigrated to the US because he felt his life was in danger, has hailed the women’s movement in Malayalam cinema and Kerala society after the release of ‘some parts’ of the Hema Committee report. “The Hema Committee report, the incident that led to the appointment of the Hema Committee – later the government changed it to Hema Committee to avoid the legal obligation to place the committee report in the Legislative Assembly – the Kerala government’s action to help the guilty by hiding the report from the public for the last five years. The government’s continued irresponsibility in helping the criminals in cinema and politics named in the Hema Committee report by not ordering a police investigation, all prove that it is not something that is limited to the cinema industry alone. The Hema Committee report is in fact a document that proves the real socio-political situation of the state of Kerala.”

Exiled Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan speaks out; reveals: “Only a few parts of the report were published and the government hid crucial findings”

Sanal emphasizes the fact that the Hema Commission report is incomplete. “Only a few parts of the report have been published and the government has suppressed many crucial findings of the commission even after the Right to Information Commission approved its publication. Even after some victims came forward, the government is not taking any action. It says that legal action can be taken only if the victims initiate legal action. This irresponsible attitude of the government proves the nexus between the dubious elements in the Malayalam film industry and the government. The nexus is so strong that the government is shamelessly covering up the criminals even after the report has sparked a heated public debate. I have been speaking out about this criminal nexus for the past five years and have faced reprisals. No one can tolerate the powerful mafia, which strongly supports the ruling party and a self-interested government. My heartfelt applause to the women who decided to fight and continue their struggle even at the risk of their own lives. It is because of the fear of reprisals from the mafia-government nexus that many women still remain silent and rightly so. The gravity of the situation is alarming and is clearly exposed.”
