Juicy J Reveals He Gets Paid For 90% Of Modern Rap Songs Thanks To Sampling

Juicy J’s discography is a gift that keeps on giving!

During a recent conversation with a fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa for Spring Hill, Juicy J revealed that his body of work throughout his career, particularly the records he released with his hip-hop group Three 6 Mafiastill earns him a substantial income today. In fact, Juicy J said he makes a profit from about 90% of modern rap songs because newer artists consistently sample from Three 6 mafias discography.

When asked by Wiz Khalifa36, if he feels the need to keep up with new trends in the music industry, Juicy J49, answered frankly,

“I feel like the new trends are the old trends. Like Three 6 Mafia, because everyone is sampling Three 6 Mafia, so I’m already in. Because we started the trends.”

Juicy J (@therealjuicyj) says he gets paid for 90% of the music coming out now because of the number of artists sampling Three 6 Mafia music — “I love it when people sample… every time I get that email I approve it.”

He talks about how often artists contact him to sample his previous work, Juicy J continued,

“With real sh*t, 5 to 6 sample (requests) a day. I get paid for pretty much every song. Like 90% of the songs that are out now.”

He continued:

“It’s a blessing. I love it when people sample me. (I’m like) approved, approved. Every time I get that email, I approve. So I really don’t have to conform to the trends, because all the music sounds like flows from the old Three 6 Mafia days, which I love, so I just keep doing what I’ve always done.”

Juicy J is one of the founders of Three 6 Mafiawhich first formed in 1991. In 2006, the beloved group made history as the first rap group to win an Academy Award, by Best Original Song for “It’s tough here for a pimp.”
