Juicy J claims he gets paid for 90% of rap songs today

Juicy J claims that he makes a profit from approximately ninety percent of the rap songs released in today’s music climate, thanks to the samples he and Three-6-Mafia create.

While performing alongside Wiz Khalifa in the premiere episode of SpringHill Company’s new series Two ways to do itthe Memphis native spoke about the influence of the Hypnotize Mindz collective on contemporary rap artists.

“I feel like the new trends are the old trends because everyone is sampling Three-6-Mafia, so I’m already in on it,” Juicy J said. “Because we started the trends,” he added, before revealing that he receives multiple sample clearances daily.

“For real shit, five to six samples a day,” he said of the amount. “I get paid for pretty much every song, like 90 percent of the songs that are out right now.” The rapper and producer made it clear that he appreciates that his music is in demand by other artists, adding that he approves all sample clearance requests he receives.

“It’s a blessing. I love it when people take samples,” Juicy J added. “I just approve it, I approve it. Every time I get that email, I approve it.” The 49-year-old believes that the popularity of him and the Hypnotize Minds sound has allowed them to stay true to their roots and not follow musical trends.

“I feel like I don’t really have to conform to the trends because all the music sounds and has the flow of the old Three-6-Mafia days, which I love. So I just keep doing what I’ve always done.”

Juicy J and Three-6-Mafia’s music has been featured in some of the biggest rap hits of the past decade, including Drake “No Friends In The Industry,” Ferg “Plain Jane,” Rae Sremmurd “Powerglide,” Cardi B “Bickenhead,” and more.
