Kamala Harris ad shows Trump’s border wall as Harris focuses on immigration

A recent campaign ad for Vice President Kamala Harris attempts to portray the candidate as a proponent of border security, even showing a photo of the border wall built under former President Donald Trump.

The Harris campaign ad uses a photo of the border wall that appears to have been taken from a Voice of America news clip from May of this year.

“As a border state prosecutor, she took on drug cartels,” Harris’ ad claims, while showing the border wall. The footage shows the border wall in Sasabe, Arizona, where Trump built the wall during his term.

The Kamala Harris campaign is on TV this morning with several new ads —

Male voice-over:

“As president, she will hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is hard. And so is… photo.twitter.com/qb2wS5CLml

This isn’t the first ad to attempt to portray Harris as a proponent of border security. “Kamala Harris supports increasing the number of Border Patrol agents,” another ad reads. “Kamala Harris supports spending more money to stop human traffickers.”

Despite the Harris campaign’s attempt to portray the Democrat as a champion of border security, the Biden-Harris administration has perpetuated an unprecedented crisis at both the southern and northern borders.

More than 10 million people have crossed the border under the Biden-Harris administration, with an estimated 1.7 million reported escapes of illegal immigrants since his inauguration in 2021. The numbers are a stark contrast to those under the Trump administration, which saw a combined 415,000 reported escapes in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

President Joe Biden tasked Harris with stemming the flood of migrants to the border shortly after taking office in 2021, calling her the “most qualified” person for the role.

The Biden-Harris administration has also ended DNA testing at the border, which was previously used by law enforcement to prevent unaccompanied immigrant minors from becoming victims of sex trafficking.

Polls have shown that immigration and border security are among the top issues for voters heading into the November election, shedding light on why Harris’ campaign may be changing course.
