DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A Duchesne County man who has been convicted of child sex crimes and is a registered sex offender has been arrested on child exploitation charges, according to a news release from the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.

Bird was convicted of unlawful sexual activity in 2008. Unlawful sexual activity with a minor is a third-degree felony, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. The DPS website listed him as having been released in December 2012.

At the time of his most recent arrest, he was already under investigation for possible rape. One of the victims reported that Bird allegedly had in his possession images of another victim’s private parts.

“Robert Bird is 35 years old and is a registered sex offender who has been charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” the affidavit said. “Robert stated during the interview that (he) had received five nude photos from (a second victim), Robert had received these photos via Snapchat,” the affidavit said.

Bird claimed he did not know who any of the victims were. He also claimed, according to the affidavit, that he destroyed evidence of the images, which authorities believed were fakes.

Bird was subsequently arrested on June 14 by the Duchesne County Sheriff and charged with five counts of exploitation of a minor. At the time of this arrest, Bird was a registered sex offender who had been convicted of unlawful sexual activity in January 2008, according to the affidavit of proable cause.

In a previous case, he was found with what authorities described as “paraphernalia.” The last time Bird was released, police say he violated the terms of his parole and used methamphetamine within a week of his release, the affidavit said.
