Former Eaton Co. prison officer charged with child sex crimes

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A former Eaton County jail guard has been indicted on multiple criminal charges involving the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor and the distribution and possession of child pornography.

According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, Eversman’s employment ended on June 24, 2024.

Ethan Eversman, 24, of Ionia, was arrested in June by Michigan State Police after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

According to court documents, from 2021 to June 2024, Eversman forced a minor victim in New York to take explicit photos and videos of herself and send them to him online. Eversman is also accused of possessing child pornography on his phone and distributing it to others.

Eversman was arrested on the following charges:

  • Four counts of aggravated child sexual abuse (distribution or promotion)
  • Three charges of possession of serious child abuse material
  • Seven counts of using a computer to commit a crime punishable by 10-20 years

If found guilty, Eversman faces up to 30 years in prison.
