During the Malayalam film industry’s #Metoo campaign, Khushbu Sundar makes shocking revelations about being abused by her father, ‘the person who was supposed to provide me with…’

Amid a #MeToo movement shaking up the Malayalam film industry, Khushbu-SundarAn actress-turned-politician has come out with strong support for the Kerala government’s Justice K Hema Committee. Taking to her official X account, Sundar discussed the committee’s crucial role in tackling the abuse faced by women in the Mollywood film industry. Sundar also spoke about its significant impact, which has led to a new wave of #MeToo movement in the film industry, and urged women to stay strong and not settle for less.

The Justice Hema Committee, formed after the actress’s 2017 case, recently published a detailed 235-page report exposing the rampant harassment and exploitation of women in Malayalam cinema. The report, made public on August 21, underscores the urgent need for reforms and better protection for women in the industry. In X, Khushbu Sundar also revealed that she was abused by her father and was questioned for taking time to talk about it. The entire revelation has shocked the entertainment news world.

Khushbu Sundar’s post on X reads, “Abuse, asking for sexual favours and expecting women to compromise to gain a foothold or accelerate their careers exist in every field. Why is a woman expected to go through the grind alone? While men also face it, it is only marginally women who bear the burden.” The politician mentioned how a victim fears being questioned and blamed for what they have been through. Khushu wants people to support them, lend a listening ear and give them strong emotional support. She stated that the reason she had not spoken up about experiencing abuse at the hands of her father earlier was because not everyone has the privilege to speak out.

Khushbu Sundar’s post further reads, “Some people ask me why I waited so long to speak about my father’s abuse. I agree that I should have spoken earlier. But what happened to me was not a compromise to build my career. I was abused by the person who should have given me the strongest arms to hold me if I fell.” Khushbu Sundar concluded the post by stating that this should be a wake-up call for everyone and wants the exploitation of women and actresses to stop immediately. The former actress also encouraged more women to speak out and reminded people that a no is always a no.

Following the HEMA committee report and the names that came out, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal resigned as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Arts (AMMA). His resignation came days after several members were accused of alleged sexual misconduct.
