Organized crime has become one of the world’s greatest challenges, an unavoidable reality with such serious implications that the international community is forced to join forces to combat it. Its complex criminal structures and the multitude of criminal activities characterize it.

Due to the pervasive impact of the virus on various critical sectors, particularly the economy, security and social sectors, many countries are unable to address the problem on their own. This underscores the urgent need for innovative mechanisms to mitigate its negative impacts and ramifications.

Therefore, updating and aligning legislation is an essential proactive step in the fight against organised crime. This is done by providing modern legal tools that enable security and judicial authorities to keep pace with the changing methods of this crime. This starts with formulating a comprehensive definition of organised crime that covers all its components and characteristics. Legislation should also be adopted that criminalises all organised criminal activities, such as drug trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking. Legislation should also be adopted that allows for the confiscation of profits from organised crime and their reuse in anti-crime programmes. Mechanisms should also be established to improve cooperation between security and judicial authorities and other government bodies.
