Female actor accuses Maniyanpilla Raju, Jayasurya of sexual abuse, Kerala police register complaint

Malayalam actors Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju have landed in deep trouble after a female actress accused them of sexually assaulting them.

The Malayalam film industry has been in the news after several cases of sexual harassment emerged against some of the actors, producers and directors. Big names like Ranjit Balakrishnan, SiddiqueAnd Mohanlal have made headlines on the internet. Now Malayalam actors are Jayasurya And Maniyanpilla Raju in trouble. They are facing individual charges of sexual abuse, following allegations leveled against them by a female actor, according to the latest news from the police departments in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala Police files a case against Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju

According to a senior officer of the Ernakulam police, a legal complaint has been filed against Raju with the Fort Kochi police with charges filed under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code. Notably, the confirmation has come from the Cantonment police in Thiruvananthapuram regarding a similar case registered against Jayasurya under the same section of the Penal Code.

A female actress on Facebook named big names and accused them of sexual abuse. The diva wrote, “I am writing to report series of incidents of physical and verbal abuse that I have been subjected to by 1 Mukesh 2 Maniyan Pilla Raju, 3 Idavela Babu, 4 Jayasoorya, 5 adv Chandrasekaran, 6 production controller Noble and Vichu, in the Malayalam film industry.”

She added: “In 2013, I was physically and verbally abused by these individuals while working on a project. I tried to cooperate and continue working, but the abuse became unbearable.”

About the Hema Committee Report

Following an incident involving a female actress in 2017, the Kerala government took action by setting up the Justice Hema Committee. The committee’s investigations unearthed shocking incidents that exposed the abuse and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. On August 25, the Kerala government formed a special investigation team to probe allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors.
