ASEAN Secretary-General meets with Home Minister Saifuddin to discuss priorities on transnational crime

JAKARTA, August 29 (Bernama) – ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn met with Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in Vientiane, Laos, to discuss the region’s priorities regarding transnational crime.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related meetings on Wednesday, a statement from the ASEAN Secretariat said.

During their conversation, the two leaders discussed Malaysia’s preparations for its upcoming chairmanship of the AMMTC in 2025.

They discussed Malaysia’s role as a voluntary leader of the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting on Transnational Crime for key priority areas including human trafficking, maritime piracy and money laundering.

Kao also expressed his full support for Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in the coming year, with particular emphasis on the priority areas of the AMMTC, the statement added.
