Australian National Review – Left-wing Colorado Governor Jared Polis calls migrant gang takeover of apartments ‘imaginary’ — even as video and mayor confirm shocking reality

Colorado Governor Jared Polis dismissed Aurora residents’ legitimate concerns about the takeover of local apartment complexes by the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

Polis arrogantly dismissed the outrage as mere “imagination,” despite overwhelming evidence including video footage, police reports and confirmation from the city’s mayor.

Gateway Pundit previously reported that Fitzsimons apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, was forced to close, leaving hundreds of families living in the building homeless.

The takeover is the direct result of the Biden-Harris regime’s dangerous open-border policy, which has allowed criminals to flow into the country unhindered.

City officials initially claimed the closure was due to a building code violation, but residents and local officials don’t believe that.

Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky is sounding the alarm, pointing to the gang’s violent activities as the real reason behind the closure.

“We don’t believe that,” Jurinsky said. “Yes, there are code violations, but this started with a gang takeover. That’s what we believe.”

On Wednesday, Fox 31 Denver reporter Vicente Arenas showed a newly released video showing alarming images of an armed group at another apartment complex in Aurora.

Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky has spoken out about the situation, stating that gangs have taken over the complex.

“And I repeat… A GANG HAS TAKEN OVER SEVERAL APARTMENT COMPLEXES IN Aurora!” Jurinsky wrote on X.

Polis’ press office responded to Aurora City Councilmember Danielle Jurinsky’s concerns with a disturbingly flippant statement.

According to the New York Post, Shelby Wieman, a spokesperson for the Democratic governor, claimed that the invasion was just Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.

“The governor has already informed the mayor that the state is prepared to support local law enforcement with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed,” Wieman told The Post.

“But according to police intelligence, this alleged invasion was largely a product of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.”

Wieman further downplayed the situation, adding, “It is illegal to take over buildings in Colorado,” and mockingly suggested that if Jurinsky has “knowledge” of such activity, the governor’s office “stands ready to assist law enforcement” in reclaiming the properties.

She also cited a dubious statistic, claiming, “Violent crime decreased in Aurora between 2022 and 2023.”

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman has been vocal about the crisis, saying that several buildings have fallen into the hands of Venezuelan gangs, who he says have ties to taxpayer-funded migrant housing.

Coffman’s claim that these gangs have used intimidation tactics to oust property managers and collect rent underscores a disturbing trend that Polis is unwilling to challenge.

“So there are multiple buildings that are actually under the same ownership, out of state, that have fallen into the hands of these Venezuelan gangs. I’m trying to push back and investigate how there is a concentration of Venezuelans in these three buildings,” Coffman said.

“Somebody put them there and somebody funded it. Whether it’s the federal government or not, we’re trying to figure out who these gangs are, apparently, or where they’re gravitating to, where there’s a concentration of Venezuelan migrants.

“And so they basically pushed the property management out through intimidation and then collected the rent. We now have or have had. These are ongoing operations with a task force of local law enforcement, state law enforcement partners, and federal law enforcement partners to take root. And arrests have been made, but these operations are still ongoing.

“This is an organized criminal effort, I’ve heard, whether it’s trendy, Aragua, that remains to be seen. But it really doesn’t matter. If they’re Venezuelan migrants and they’re committing crime in an organized way, then they’re a problem,” he added.
