Prime Minister Browne meets 2Drilly Crew – Agreement reached to pursue positive path to peace

Prime Minister Gaston Browne had a very constructive conversation with members of the 2Drilly crew on Thursday evening.

During the fight, which began with prayers invoking the presence of God, the Prime Minister learned that there are hostile gangs in the country, including the Grays Farm Killers (GFK). These gangs are waging war with each other using machetes and cleavers, resulting in several members being seriously injured.

The Prime Minister called on the warring parties to end the conflict and walk a path of peace, while stressing the fact that “we as Antiguans and Barbudans are one family with a common destiny.”

He told them that their purpose in life is not to kill and maim, but to be productive, empathetic, and caring members of society.

Prime Minister Browne indicated he wants to tackle the Grays Farm Killers, GFK, next week and hopes there will be similar commitments to peace and reform.

During the talks, the crew members agreed to take a positive path toward peace and become productive citizens.

The country’s prime minister promised to provide employment and skills development opportunities to the Harrison Center School of Continuing Education. Some of the 2Drilly crew also agreed to enroll in the YEEP, Second Chance program.

In addition, the Prime Minister agreed to a proposal to help the 2Drilly team set up an egg shop.

This is the second time that Prime Minister Browne has taken on gang rehabilitation. The other was the Red Shut Gang, which he and community activist Luther Lee helped reform two decades ago. The Red Shut Gang was eventually dismantled after its members had become productively involved.

Also present at the meeting were King Sagifu and High Priest Selah who encouraged the youth to engage in positive development. Community activists Mitch Jeremiah and Jawato Joseph were also present.

Last weekend, following reports of an increase in youth criminal activity, Prime Minister Browne sent out an invitation on public radio to meet the 2Drilly Crew, which was accepted by the members. The meeting was held at the Villa Community Centre.
