Kamala claims she is the candidate who is the toughest on the border

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed during a recorded interview with CNN on Thursday that she, along with former President Donald Trump, is the candidate who will be tough on the border despite the historic influx of illegal immigration into the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration.

Harris made the claim during her first interview as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

Host Dana Bash asked Harris why the Biden-Harris administration “waited three and a half years to implement sweeping restrictions on asylum.”

“Well, first of all, the root cause work that I did as vice president, that I was asked to do by the president, has actually resulted in a number of benefits, including historic investments by American companies in that region,” she said. “The number of immigrants coming from that region has actually declined since we started that work.”

Illegal immigration has not declined significantly. The slight decline in numbers is attributable to two factors, including extreme heat during the summer months that discourages many migrants from making the journey and the creation of immigration programs that mask the true number of illegal aliens crossing the border. according to former acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf.

Harris then blamed Trump for blocking a proposed border bill in the U.S. Senate because “it wouldn’t have helped him politically.”

However, Republicans in Congress overwhelmingly rejected the bill, with many saying it would effectively legalize illegal immigration. The Republican senator who worked with Democrats on the legislation eventually withdrew his support.

Harris — who said she wanted to end private health insurance, which means everyone has a taxpayer-funded government health plan — said she supported including illegal aliens in her health care plan. She also said those who cross the U.S. border illegally, a federal crime, are not criminals.

Harris claimed that she was “the only person in this race who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations that traffic in guns, drugs and people.”

“I am the only person in this race who actually served a border state as attorney general to enforce our laws,” she said. “And I would enforce our laws as president in the future.”

Although Trump is not a prosecutor by profession, his presidential administration had a Justice Department that prosecuted numerous cases against “transnational criminal organizations that traffic in guns, drugs and people.”
