City councilwoman responds after Colorado governor says she imagined apartment takeovers by Venezuelan gangs American Wire News

Colorado’s Democratic governor responded to the “takeover” of Denver-area apartment complexes by a violent Venezuelan gang by suggesting a city councilman is making it up, despite video footage of the foreign thugs in action.

Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky said she was “disappointed” by a statement from Gov. Jared Polis’ office saying the aggressive actions of gang members suspected of belonging to the notorious Tren de Aragua were a figment of her “imagination” in a dismissive response to her criticism of his policies.

“The governor has already informed the mayor that the state stands ready to support local law enforcement with assistance from state agents and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed,” the spokeswoman, Shelby Wieman, said in a statement to the New York Post. “But according to police intelligence, this alleged invasion is largely a function of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.”

“I’m so disappointed,” Jurinsky told Fox News Digital. “My question to the governor is, is this also a figment of the imagination of the Romeros? And the other resident that I helped get out of there, and the other residents that I’m still going to get out of there?”

She was referring to Cindy and Edward Romero who had to move from their apartment out of fear for their safety.

“It was a nightmare and I can’t wait to get out of here,” Cindy Romero told local Denver outlet KDVR. The couple was able to escape with Jurinsky’s help.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Wieman said Polis “hopes the city council members in charge will stop destroying their own city when they should be keeping it safe.”

“We know that violent crime in Aurora declined between 2022 and 2023, and we expect the data for 2024 to show a further decline. Furthermore, the recent disinformation campaign threatens actual criminal investigations and could harm the small business climate in Aurora,” Wieman added, implausibly suggesting that Jurinsky’s alarm about apartment takeovers by illegal gangs would be detrimental to business owners.

“There are people behind this who are just playing politics,” Jurinsky said. “I find that so sad because these are real people, just like the Romeros who are suffering on the other side of those doors, living behind four deadbolts and a door bar and living in fear every day in these complexes.”

“It’s promising that people across the board are really seeing what’s happening,” she added. “Video footage is only undeniable for our governor in Colorado. Everyone in the country is seeing this with their own eyes.”

“The city’s nonprofits are lining up to help the migrants that have come here, but no one is helping the Americans that are stuck in these apartment complexes,” Jurinsky told Fox 31 Denver. “These are not just Americans. Other Venezuelans are being extorted by this gang.”

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman blamed the Biden-Harris administration for policies that have allowed criminals to flood into America as part of the ongoing invasion of illegal immigrants.

“So here’s the problem. I think we’re the victim of failed policy at the southern border, because what you have is Venezuela is not, according to my law enforcement, Venezuela is not cooperating with the United States to share criminal histories,” Coffman said during an appearance on Fox News on Thursday, adding: “You’ve had a third of the country leave. You’ve had these massive waves of migrants coming across the border, many of whom crossed the border illegally, were arrested, applied for political asylum, were not adequately screened, were released into the country.”
