Larchwood man arrested, accused of sexual exploitation of minor

Larchwood, Iowa — A Larchwood man has been arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Roberto Escobar, 25, of Larchwood, is accused of distributing videos of a minor in a sex act. He was arrested Tuesday.

In his statement, the DCI agent says Escobar knowingly distributed two videos that depicted a minor performing a sexual act on an adult. He says the files were distributed through a Google account belonging to Escobar and were sent over the internet connection at his home. The DCI agent says the activity was reported by Google to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Escobar was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, a class D felony. If convicted, Escobar could face up to five years in prison.

He is due to appear in court for the first time on September 17.

Escobar was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids and was released Tuesday after posting $5,000 bail.
