Sault News: Man charged with child pornography offences

A 57-year-old man has been charged with child pornography, following an investigation that began in May.

Detectives in Sault launched an investigation after a local electronic repair company reported finding child pornography on a computer the man had taken in for repairs.

“After receiving a warrant to examine the device, investigators conducted a forensic analysis of the computer and found numerous digital files that met the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code,” police said in a news release Friday.

The owner of the computer went to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building on August 28, where he was arrested without incident.

The 57-year-old is accused of both accessing and possessing child pornography.

The suspect was being held pending a bail hearing.
