Victims of human trafficking need better support: experts

Hyderabad: Stronger collaboration among stakeholders, expanded support systems for survivors, more research and data-driven policymaking and improved capacities of cybercrime units are important to combat human trafficking, said experts at the two-day seminar on emerging trends in human trafficking and strategies to combat it. Organised by the Women Safety Wing (WSW) of the Telangana police and the NGO International Justice Mission, which works to combat human trafficking, the seminar concluded on Friday.

DGP and WSW leader Shikha Goel said the seminar provided a platform for over 225 participants, including government officials, police officers, lawyers, media representatives and legal professionals, to discuss the emerging trends in human trafficking and develop joint strategies to combat this crime.

“Key topics discussed during the seminar included sex and labor trafficking, online sexual exploitation of children, transnational trafficking in persons, and the critical role of media in combating trafficking. The experts emphasized the urgency of implementing these strategies to effectively address the challenges of trafficking,” she added. The event featured stalls with awareness-raising materials from the WSW, which attracted significant interest from other states.
