Nicolas Winding Refn hasn’t directed a film since The Neon Demon eight years ago, but he’s finally gearing up for a new project.

Motivation director Nicolas Winding Refn has not directed a film since The Neon Demon was released eight years ago, but that’s all set to change. Variety reports that Refn is preparing to shoot his next film in Tokyo next year, which will be in English and Japanese.

Despite his once claiming that “the cinema is dead,Refn believes the time is right to return.It’s a very interesting time to make films because the situation is so chaotic,“he said.”So going back and making a feature film again is almost like not starting over, but with all the changes in our societies over the last five years and technological changes, it almost seems like the right thing to do for me.

There aren’t many details about Refn’s new film, but he did promise that it will “will contain lots of glitter and (a lot of) sex and violence.The director added that “Feature film is still the mother of all media,“and he’s excited to”to relive that process“after his break from the feature film world.”I think it’s hard for me to escape my self-absorbed identity in creativity,“he said.”So I’ll always be in it.

Although this project will be Refn’s first new film in nearly a decade, he has not been sitting still.
