Tow truck driver accused of wrecking operations near Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — A tow truck driver has been arrested after officers found multiple stolen vehicles and child pornography during an investigation.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday that Brian Chacon, 33, a tow truck driver with Eagle Wing Towing, “may have taken vehicles that he was not legally allowed to impound or have in his possession.”

The investigation began in December 2023 when a detective with the sheriff’s office’s Auto Theft Unit was working a stolen vehicle case and learned it may have been one of many incidents involving Eagle Wing Towing, the news release said.

“There was only one impound lot where Chacon and Eagle Wing Towing were allowed to store impounded vehicles. Vehicles that were later reported stolen were in Chacon’s possession and were never brought to this impound lot,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Chacon had driven “numerous vehicles” to U-Pull and Pay parking lots in Denver, Aurora and Littleton.

Court records show a public defender has been assigned to Chacon’s case. The office does not comment on its cases.

According to investigators, of the 81 cars known to have been sold to a junkyard by Chacon or the towing company, or associated with Chacon or the towing company, 48 were confirmed stolen, four were confirmed as belonging to the towing company and 29 were unidentified because the most recent or true owner could not be located, the release said.

“During the investigation, detectives also discovered that Chacon was in possession of child pornography,” the sheriff’s office said.
