This position is based in Mogadishu, Somalia and reports to the WFP Somalia Mogadishu Partnerships Team Lead.

This position is open to qualified Somali candidates. Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, within the delegated authority):

Mobilization of resources

  • Support the coordination of donor accounts and ensure that commitments agreed with donors to WFP in Somalia are met.
  • Monitor reporting and compliance requirements for donor grants and liaise with programme and partner teams regarding project implementation to ensure timely and quality reporting. Maintain an up-to-date tracker of donor commitments, obligations and reporting requirements.
  • Support the team leader in preparing new funding proposals, including coordination between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the process of developing reports for partner contributions, including coordinating with relevant teams for timely input.
  • Support proactive resource mobilization by preparing regular intelligence reports on emerging opportunities to pursue, donor engagement and priorities, and political developments.
  • Ensure regular engagement with a network of internal stakeholders at WFP Somalia and within the Headquarters and Regional Office partnerships on matters related to resource mobilization.
  • Contribute to knowledge management related to resource mobilization. Use corporate tools for intelligence, including Salesforce and distribute intelligence to internal stakeholders.

Partnerships and Advocacy

  • Support the development of information products, such as PowerPoint presentations and briefing notes, to share information with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of current activities and political and social events of the UN and other multilateral bodies/governments, conduct analyses to understand how these may impact WFP activities and programmes, and provide WFP teams with timely information for decision-making.
  • In support of the Partnership Officers and CO units, I assist in preparing briefing documents for external meetings with donors and other partners.
  • Work with partners and communications staff to support events including launches, field visits, workshops and other external activities.
  • Contribute to the implementation of WFP Somalia’s strategic country plan and annual priorities, as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND LANGUAGE:

Education: High School certificate or university degree (diploma/bachelor) in political science, international development, law, marketing, communications or other relevant field.

Experience: Bee at least seven (7) years of experience with secondary certificate OR university degree (diploma/bachelor’s degree) with minimum two (2) years or more experience in International Development or International Relations?

Language: Fluent (level C) in English and Somali. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second UN language is an added advantage.

ARE YOU COMPETENT FOR THIS JOB? DO YOU HAVE:

  • Experience in international development or international relations.
  • Knowledge and skills: Relationship/partner management, resource mobilization, grant management, excellent writing and analytical skills, project management, proposal writing, report writing. Knowledge of financing for development. Previous knowledge of Somalia or WFP would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft (MS Excel).
