Charles (Ruby) Stein – The Mafia’s Biggest Loan shark

Ruby Stein was probably the biggest shyster in New York City from the 1950s through the 1970s. At one point he was said to have over $5,000,000 “on the streets” on any given day.

When he teamed up with Colombo soldier and later capo Nicholas (Jiggs) Forlano, the dynamic duo became nearly unstoppable, even when the Gallos tried to kill them multiple times during the Profaci-Gallo War of the 1960s.

But as sometimes happens in the underworld, things take a turn for the worse, and that’s exactly what happened to Charles (Ruby) Stein.
